Prescribed Burning

Fire is an essential ecological process required by many fire dependent ecosystems. In Florida and throughout the southeast U.S, fire suppression has allowed some fuel loads to increase to dangerous levels. Wildfires that start under these conditions can become catastrophic, destroying homes and property and causing severe damage to natural systems. These same overgrown conditions can make native habitats unsuitable for many listed species (i.e. gopher tortoises and Florida scrub jays) reducing their ability to survive or sustain viable populations. 

Eco-Logic is trained to assess fire risks and habitat conditions for various plant communities and wildlife species in order to develop fire management plans. We employ a fully certified professional prescribed fire manager and utilize well trained fire technicians.  Our competent crews are experienced in applying fire under varied conditions from low-complexity rural pasture burns to highly-complex urban interface burns in areas with smoke sensitive considerations. We are willing and able to evaluate client needs and discuss prescriptions needed for all situations.

Prescribed Burn Planning & Implementation Costs

1) Burn boss: $100/hr
2) Brush truck and operator $175/hr
3) Crew: $40-$75/hr
4) Ecologist: $75-$90

Each Burn team shall include at a minimum: (1) state-certified, insured burn boss, (1) experienced brush truck operator, and (2) trained crew members.  Tractor and additional crew members may be used depending on the location of the burn unit (near population centers, smoke sensitive areas, etc.)

Typical total costs per burn (not including travel): $100/acre w/ a $3500 minimum (burns less than 35 acres).  Total cost includes completion of Tasks 1 and 2 as described in Scope (provided for each specific project.

Travel costs will be negotiated on a case by case basis.  Travel costs will be minimized by using local crews, deployed from the closest facility.
