NEW NATIVE NURSERY FACILITIES OPENED!!

Since our founding in 2004, Eco-Logic has had to acquire native plants from Florida, Georgia and Alabama for our restoration projects.  It seemed that all of the nurseries here in South Mississippi were devoted to producing mostly ornamental trees and shrubs.  This complicated project logistics and increased the cost to our clients.

Eco-Logic, in cooperation with Young’s Nursery, is now pleased to announce the addition of south Mississippi’s first all native plant nursery to our scope of available environmental services.  Our mission is to produce a quality plant that will enhance local natural ecosytems, reduce landscape maintenance costs, and build successful business relationships that stimulate local economies.  Located in Jackson County near the town of VanCleave, the nursery now has available quality native herbaceous plants and grasses for use in:

  • wetland and upland habitat restoration,
  • commercial and residential landscaping,
  • golf course enhancements,
  • erosion control,
  • shoreline stabilization.

Eco-Logic utilizes specialized seed stripping equipment that enables our environmental scientists to collect native seeds in an ecologically responsible manner. Whenever available, we collect from local sources to maintain genetic integrity and produce plants that are well-adapted to the local conditions.  If we don’t have it in stock, we will contract grow plants for your project or locate and deliver the needed plants to you from one of our many nursery contacts in FL, GA and AL.

NATIVE PLANTS ARE NOT JUST FOR WILDLANDS ANYMORE!

Native plants add beauty and sustainability to your landscape plantings as well.  Xeriscaping doesn’t have to mean planting cactus. Aesthetically pleasing native plants are available for all types of habitats.  Once established, these plants generally require less maintenance and use less water, saving you time and money.

Muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) newly stepped up to 1-gallon pots.  This is a great, sturdy ornamental grass that can be used for landscaping or savanna restoration. Morningglory (Ipomoea pes-caprae) and bitter panicgrass (Panicum amarum) in 1-gallon pots ready for installation. These are perfect for dune restorations or landscaping.

Collecting native saltmeadow cordgrass (Spartina patens) seeds from a Mississippi Gulf Coast salt marsh. For larger projects we have pull-behind seed strippers and flail-vac seed collection equipment available. Collected seeds are propagated in liner trays inside the greenhouse. Plants are started under these controlled conditions to increase germination and initial growth. Once established, they can be stepped up to gallon pots.
